Older Person’s Grant
This grant is for qualifying people aged 60 or older. Eligibility includes residency/citizenship rules, a means test, limits on receiving another grant for yourself, and rules concerning state-funded institutions. People aged 75 or older may receive the higher maximum amount shown above.
Disability Grant
The Disability Grant is generally for qualifying adults aged 18 to 59 who meet the financial requirements and have a medical or functional assessment confirming disability. Temporary and permanent disability assessments can have different review periods.
Child Support Grant
The Child Support Grant assists qualifying primary caregivers of children under 18. A means test applies. A Child Support Grant Top-Up exists for qualifying relatives caring for orphaned children; it is linked to the standard Child Support Grant rather than a completely separate grant.
Care Dependency Grant
This grant supports qualifying caregivers of children under 18 who require permanent care because of a disability. A medical or functional assessment is required, and a means test applies except in specific foster-care circumstances.
Foster Child Grant
A valid court order placing the child in foster care is central to this grant. The 2026 SASSA grant booklet notes that the foster child grant is not means tested and may in certain circumstances be extended for a child continuing education.
Grant-in-Aid
Grant-in-Aid is not a stand-alone grant. It is an additional payment for qualifying recipients of an Older Person’s, Disability or War Veterans Grant who require regular care from another person.
War Veterans Grant
This grant is for qualifying veterans who served in the Second World War or Korean War and meet the age/disability and means-test requirements.
