What Is the SRD R370 Grant?
The Social Relief of Distress grant provides temporary income support to qualifying applicants. The 2026 Budget extended the current R370 monthly amount through 31 March 2027.
Basic SRD Eligibility
The SRD programme is intended for qualifying people aged 18 to 60 who have insufficient means and meet the programme’s citizenship/residency or permit requirements and other eligibility checks. Applications and monthly outcomes are assessed using personal, income, banking and other verification information.
How Monthly SRD Status Works
SRD status is period-based. A person may be approved for one month and have a different result for another month. Common outcomes include approved, pending and declined. An approved period may later show a pay-day value.
SRD Payment Dates
SRD R370 payments do not use the same fixed monthly dates as Older Persons, Disability and Children’s grants. Your individual status result is the relevant place to look for an SRD pay day after approval.
Bank Verification
Payment information must match the beneficiary and may need verification before payment can be processed. Avoid using another person’s bank account for your grant unless the applicable process expressly allows it.
Declined SRD Status
If a monthly period is declined, read the reason attached to the outcome. An appeal is month-specific, so a person may need to appeal each declined month separately where the rules allow.
